2018 Program Highlights
The WLI team developed partnerships, conceptual frameworks, and methodologies in the spring, and launched the pilot Water Leaders cohort (with neighborhood leaders) in the fall, with seed funding from the Trust for Public Land and Pisces Foundation, the Foundation for Louisiana, and the Greater New Orleans Foundation.
Spring 2018: Participation in Mayor Cantrell’s Transition Team Infrastructure Committee; Courses and research on community-based planning and design at the Tulane School of Architecture
Fall 2018 Pilot Cohort: Co-creation of curriculum with 5 community leaders and in partnership with CSED; Pilot cohort of 20 community leaders from all five New Orleans council districts and St. Bernard Parish, with cohort reaching another 150 community members through community projects
Fall 2018: Publication of op-ed in the Washington Post on the importance of community-based planning and design
Winter 2018: Ecosystem mapping of community engagement and capacity-building across water-focused organizations
