WLI is collaborating with the Blue House Civic Studio to produce Mixed Media: Water Systems. This program, taking place across summer and fall 2019, brings together artists, social scientists, designers, systems operators, and the New Orleans Advocate to advance civic dialogue on water and infrastructure through art, exhibitions, and public events.

The Blue House is currently exhibiting a series of collages created by artist Anne Nelson, based on her engagement with water issues through the WLI pilot cohort in 2018. A second exhibit will feature photographs by CFreedom and Maggie Hermann, featuring life in Sewerage & Water Board drainage pump stations. In addition, Civic Studio partnered with artist Carole Alden and the Green Project to create and launch a 25’ floating water creature sculpture on Bayou St. John, inspired by the wetlands and water systems of southeast Louisiana. The New Orleans Advocate will be publishing this artwork and accompanying stories in fall 2019.

Public events and learning opportunities have included topics such as mosquitoes, groundwater, and infrastructural policy. WLI pilot cohort member Stephanie Gross was a featured speaker, alongside geohydrologist Roelof Stuurman, as part of a public dialogue on fungus, soils, and water.

Stay tuned for more Mixed Media: Water Systems events, learning opportunities, and resources.
